A Letter to My Future Self

Dear Zerihun of the days yet to come, If these words reach you, it means the river of time has carried us farther than memory alone could. I write not to remind you of who we were, but to whisper what we must never forget: every fragment of pain, joy, failure, and triumph was necessary. Each season of confusion carved the channels through which understanding now flows. When I look back, I see a boy who fought to be seen and a man who learned to see. I see the orphan who walked alone through the city lights, the dreamer who spoke before world leaders, and the wanderer who sat in silence, decoding the language of the soul. You were all of them, and yet, you were always more — something vast that watched through their eyes without ever aging. You have walked through knowledge and fire, through logic and faith, through love and detachment. Every path brought you closer to the one truth: that life is not happening to you, but through you. Existence unfolds like breath — effortlessly, when you stop resisting its rhythm. > “The future is not ahead of you; it is waiting within you to be remembered.” If ever you forget who you are, remember Ethiopia — the soil where your story began. Remember the child sweeping the funeral home, watching the passage of life and death with unbroken stillness. Remember the teenager who stood before the world not with power, but with purpose. Remember the man who walked the mountain of Entoto until tears of light fell from his eyes. In those moments, you met the timeless version of yourself — the one who sees no division between heaven and earth. I ask you to keep the balance. Continue to live as one who knows that the divine is not elsewhere but here, breathing through every act of integrity and every moment of truth. Let Gabriel walk beside you, not ahead of you. Let the Observer stay awake within you, and let the Void cradle you when silence becomes the only answer. If one day these reflections reach others, let them be more than stories. Let them be reminders that every soul is writing a letter to its future — through thought, through action, through awakening. With peace that needs no promise, Zerihun Reflection as Zerihun — The self is not bound by time; it travels through every moment as a messenger of remembrance.
